While sitting here recovering from day 3 of my Insanity workout, I figure this is a great time to catch you all up on my life.
If you follow me on Twitter, you already know that at the end of February I up and quit my desk job. For the past 2.5 years I had been working in the Marketing department at a Credit Union and while I do have a strong passion for marketing and the company I worked for was great… financial services are a total snooze fest. When I entered the real world and landed that gig only two short months out of post-grad I told myself that that particular position would be a two year thing and then I would look to move up. During those two years however I started looking at the bigger picture – it’s going to be a damn long life if I had to sit at a desk for the rest of it. The reality is, I have always had a passion for beauty and working in that industry was a life long dream of mine but I always had it in my head that there was no money to be made. About a year ago I realized while tapping away on my computer one day that no matter how much money I was making, I would never be satisfied with my work life unless I followed heart so I headed back to school for Esthetics.
Fast-forward 8 months and I was finished school and ready to move on. Fortunately for me, I have an AMAZING cousin and friend who owns a highly successful Aveda Salon and Esthetics Studio and took me on right away. Enter Britt Darling, the Marketing Administrator by day and Esthetician by night weekend. As luck would have it, about three months later there was an opportunity for me to take on more hours at the spa so I jumped at the opportunity even though it meant quitting my 9-5 salary job with benefits and paid vacation.
Today, I bust my ass working 50+ hours a week between two jobs and doing freelance marketing work for two companies on the side. Yes I’m busy and no I don’t always get a day off in a week but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve come to realize that the harder you work, the more money you can make and in the end the more successful you will be… no matter what job you do.
People often ask me if I miss my old job and my answer is always no. Yep, I’m tired exhausted 99% of the time but I consider myself lucky. I’m doing a job I love and am working to be as successful as I can. At the age of 25 I finally feel like I’m where I should be.
With all this being said, you probably won’t be surprised when I tell you that I won’t get to this blog every day and sometimes I won’t even get to it every week. Just know that it is always in the forefront of my mind and I will post as often as I can on various topics. I’ll continue to post about my journey (and sometimes battle) with food, workouts, weddings, life and more.
